My gosh... I just got an invite for my 20th high school reunion on October 25th. Certain parts of high school are still crystal clear in my memory, and still immediate in my emotions; I remember having to lip-synch in the choir for this one song because it made me cry, which messed up my voice, so I went silent during that part, and just pretended to sing. My throat still tightens at the thought. Twenty! Years! -- How time flies.

tantra_cat sent me this, Goddess bless her. One of the funniest things I've seen in a while. I swear the bird can tell the changes in the music. (Or is it all cosmic coincidence, like watching The Wizard of Oz while playing Pink Floyd's "Dark Side of the Moon" album?) Probably doesn't hurt that I love the song....

Where Summer sits braiding her warm, white brows
With bramble-roses...here you may meet with Beauty.

(Madison Cawein, 1865-1914)*

If I could paint, I would paint that image.

*Maidens, the art fair we attended in Louisville was in St. James Court, where this poet once lived.

Update on Raja Kitty. GOOD NEWS! The largish distinct lump in his abdomen is nothing but fatty tissue. It is not a tumor. The vet said it's nothing to worry about, unless it turns hard or gets bigger, in which case bring him back in to get it checked out.

And my little Girly who has terminal cancer is still not visibly sick and seems to be doing fine, nine months after her diagnosis.

All thanks to Potnia Theron and to St. Francis.

My text entries don't seem to be posting right. They skip the first few words and then post as private when I didn't tell them to.

Anyway, last night around nine I took a walk and sent this entry from my phone:

Love when it storms and then clears, right at sunset. Molten gold streets, dense gold air.

The things you learn on Wikipedia. Apparently, George Lucas, a fan of Eraserhead, offered David Lynch the opportunity to direct Return of the Jedi. (!!!) He refused. Can you imagine what it would have been like if he hadn't?! At least there wouldn't have been that stupid ending with those furry things dancing around.

Another great dance scene, with the incomparable Cyd Charisse. She had an incredibly beautiful body, of its particular type...long, lithe, slim-waisted, small-breasted, with just spectacular legs.

LOVE her green outfit in this clip! The color (of course; I'm a green fiend), the asymmetrical lappets, the choker, the shoes...the bracelets above and below the elbow, worn on just one arm. Gorgeous. It looks both flapper and fae.

She's so graceful, every movement, all the way down to the tips of her fingers. I love when she rubs his eyeglasses on her thigh. lol

Update: Gosh, she just died a month ago. I had no idea.

Fred Astaire said of her, "That Cyd! When you've danced with her, you stay danced with."

Two things worked together in my brain, and conspired to remind me of something wonderful I want to share with you all. First, I re-watched Mulholland Drive. Second, I used the phrase "it's too darn hot" recently, because it is. That reminded me of something I saw literally more than 20 years ago, and I looked it up on YouTube.

I can't dance but I adore watching dancing, it thrills me to pieces. So I went to the theatre by myself as a teenager, and watched a movie called That's Dancing, showcasing the use of dance in film over several decades. LOVED IT. In fact I'd like to own it someday if it's even available; no one but me seems to have heard of it.

One particular number from the film really stood out in my mind at the time, and it sprang into my memory just this month for the above reasons. It's a dazzling number called "Too Darn Hot" (from Kiss Me, Kate) showcasing the talents of Ann Miller.

(Ann Miller's last role was Coco in Mulholland Drive. "Get! rrrid of it!")

A happy example of an illness having a silver lining, she began dancing as a child to straighten her legs which were affected by rickets. Signed a deal with RKO when she was 13 (she told them she was 18). What guts!

She wasn't really a stand-out singer, but lord, what a dancer. And the joy in her face when she danced! I love her up on the tables. Bang! And the flashy part with the bongos later in...and the coy, flirty bit with the fan, towards the end. Wasn't she adorable? As the musicians say, "Go, girl! Go!"

Farmer Aaron loves both flora and fauna. When he sees a cute plant, he says 'Oh hai!' like LOLcats.
